Getting straight to the point .... Bangalore sucks when it comes to road sense. People do not seem to have any concern for others on the road (or even footpath). Nor do they have any concern regarding the environment (no PUC certificates). Forget the environment, they don't give a damn about their own lungs!!
Policemen stand around watching the traffic as it goes on the wrong side of the road in order to beat the signal. They stand around watching jams being created (this is ONLY if they haven't caused the jam in the first place). They randomly stop people and ask for papers/breath test (which is the only good thing they do) - but then this is done only once a week, on Saturdays. They make their money and then they disappear for a week.
PUC Certificate
Auto drivers, truck drivers, Volvo buses, mopeds - ALL these vehicles spew out black / brown smoke - so much in quantity that it becomes difficult to see the road or their number plate if they are in front of you. It is almost as though they are watering plants on the road dividers with putrid exhaust fumes.
Bombay in this manner is at the other extreme. Policemen give you a tough time in case your vehicle emits coloured exhaust - a PUC certificate is MANDATORY !!! (which is why I love that city)
Unnecessary Honking
Drivers (in any vehicle) think that if they honk, the traffic will clear and they will be able to move forward! Little do they realise that the person in them is not moving, not because he doesn't want to, but because he cannot!
They also honk if the signal is red!!! Only because you are not giving them way to go ahead!! IN A RED SIGNAL !!!!
Wrong side Driving
What is with this place? Bikers drive on footpaths (and abuse pedestrians for blocking their way). Autos, cars, bikes drive on the wrong side of the road to beat a signal. I mean, why ? Why do such a thing? What are you going to achieve? Five less minutes on the road? Well, one might say that even those 5 minutes are heaven sent, but little do they realise that if they all followed the rules, they would not crave for those 5 minutes!
Autos Overcharge
Autos in Bangalore have not heard of the concept of "meter" - or even if they have they are reluctant to follow it ... They ask you for Rs20 or Rs30 extra wherever you might want to go! If you ask them to go by the meter, they give you a real dirty look and drive away! They refuse to take you to some destinations - for NO reason whatsoever, they overcharge regularly, they demand extra, they demand double the meter because they will not get a return fare! I mean, what the hell!!! why become an auto driver??? Who gave them licences? Why doesn't the police do anything about such a pathetic situation?
I cam across this app on the Google Play store, and I think everyone should download it : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.saurabh.bngautocomplain&feature=search_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwxLDEsImNvbS5zYXVyYWJoLmJuZ2F1dG9jb21wbGFpbiJd
You can complain about errant auto drivers, snap a picture of their number plate etc.
All this because, according to the law, an auto driver CANNOT refuse a passenger or demand extra money.
Anyway, I hate the traffic in this city - not because it is there, but because it is COMPLETELY disorganised. And trust me, I'm from Bombay - and that city has more traffic than Bangalore. But then, it is Organised Chaos.
